London Marathon

London Marathon

The idea was created in a pub by former Olympic champion and journalist Chris Brasher and athlete John Disley. Now it’s the largest annual fundraising event in the world.

Since its launch, runners have raised over £830 million for charity! There’s a group of people known as the ‘Ever Presents’ who have completed every single race since the beginning in 1981.

Hitting ‘the wall’

This always reminds me of the film ‘Run Fatboy Run’ and gives a little insight into what may happen to some people who take on a marathon. What is it? “It’s a sudden fatigue and loss of energy, which is caused by the depletion of glycogen stores in the liver and muscles.”

Here are a few tips for all of you runners out there to help prevent this:

  • Weekly long runs
  • Run at least 1 20 miler
  • Train at marathon pace
  • Don’t start out too fast
  • Take walking breaks
  • Consume calories throughout your marathon

Good luck to all London Marathon runners this year – break a leg (actually, don’t do that)!
