Remember, remember the 5th of November…
The 5th November marks the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot when Guy Fawkes attempted to blow up the Houses of Parliament.
Dummies have been made and burned on bonfires since the 13th Century, initially to remove evil spirits.
Today the word ‘guy’ is another word for ‘a man’, but originally it was in reference to Guy Fawkes himself as an ‘repulsive, ugly person’. FYI – if your name happens to be Guy, we still love you!
To commemorate this historial tradition, we’ve collated some interesting facts and figures about Guy Fawkes Night and put them into a handy infographic for you to feast your eyes on.
How are you spending your bonfire night this year? Will you be hosting a small firework party in your back garden or will you going to an organised public display in your local area? Don’t forget to buy your marshmallows and sparklers – just make sure you don’t get the two mixed up!
