It’s that time of year again when you put batter in a pan, create the perfect pancake and add your favourite toppings! Pancake day is also known as Shrove Tuesday, this is a Christian festival to mark the start of lent. “Shrove” stems from the old English word “shrive” which means to confess all sins. Making pancakes was one way to use up rich foods before lent using milk, butter and eggs.

Did you know pancake races came about when a woman in 1445 found herself still making pancakes as the church bells rang. She didn’t want to be late to church so she raced out of the house, still wearing her apron and frying pan in her hand making her way to church, with her pancake.
