International left handers awareness day!

13^th August is a day to celebrate everyone who is left-handed and to raise awareness for everyday challenges left-handed people face in a world designed for right-handers.

Lefties make up around 12% of the population and are said to be more creative. Our Creative Director, Nadiya, is left-handed and uses a notepad on a daily basis, meaning there is always a chance of smudging ink across the page – not ideal and very frustrating! So what’s the solution? Imborrable have designed a notepad specifically for left-handed people (hurrah!) that come in a range of patterns, take a look here.

To mark this day, here are 8 interesting facts about the lefties:

1. The Simpsons character Ned Flanders, set up a shop called “The Leftorium” which specialised in left-handed products.
2. Lefties are also called “southpaws”. The term was used in baseball to describe a left-handed pitcher.
3. More likely to pursue creative careers.
4. Some of your favourite celebrities are lefties, to name a few: Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman, Robert DeNiro, Bruce Willis, Angelina Jolie, Paul McCartney and Celine Dion. Maybe being left-handed is the secret to success!
5. They make great baseball and tennis players, swimmers and boxers. With almost 40% of the top tennis players being left-handed.
6. Left-handedness runs in the family. Lefties in the Royal family include the Queen mother, Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Charles and Prince William.
7. Out of the 7 most recent US presidents, 4 have been left-handed.
8. According to research left-handed people have higher IQs than right-handed people. Albert Einstein, Charles Darwin and Benjamin Franklin were all lefties, so who are we to judge!

So why not use this day to have a bit of fun and ask the right-handed people to do everything left-handed today – that should be interesting to watch!
